Dr. Pat Ebili, HOPE ASSEMBLY ORGANISATION {An NGO formed and managed by those living with Hiv/Aids] 30 Tosin Street, Ikeja, Lagos. hopeassemblyorg@yahoo.com 234-803-583-9515 Dear sir/madam, AN APPEAL FOR HELP That the Hiv/Aids pandemic is a worldwide scourge, seeking to wipe out humanity, in the shortest time possible is no longer news. No doubt, United Nations through its agencies, has been sensitizing, creating awareness and doing a lot on preventing programmes on HivAids. In Africa, especially Nigeria, the largest and the most populous African nation, these agencies are on ground, doing the best to curtail the spread of this deadly disease. But wait a moment, and look at the facts below. FACTS; 1. 60% of Nigeria's 130million people live in the rural areas. 2. 50% of Nigerians live below UN poverty level 3. Only 37.7% of Nigerians have access to information, via print and eletronic media. 4.* UN agencies are on ground, but Hiv/Aids cases have doubled! Corruption and sharp practices on the side of govt. officials are largely responsible, UN agencies are not told the truth, and the fund meant for the fight Hiv/Aids are diverted. Our over 5,378 members work as volunteers, going from one rural community to another, on enlightenment campaigns, through dramas, video/film shows and workshops, attracting members and assisting them form groups in the fight against Hiv/Aids. we are seriously making progress, but not without setbacks. Mike Matt, Unesco representative in nigeria, visited us in august 2003,after accessing and reviewing our activities, promised to make recommendations on our behalf, he thereafther made a personal donation. Even with our constrains, we have created a high level of awareness, our major setback remains lack of support[material and financial] AREAS OF ASSISTANCE: 1.communication: phones, walkie talkies 2.Enlightenment campaign material; film projectors, video clips on Hiv/Aids, 3.Funding: Payment for halls/centres for programmes, We need your moral/material/financial support. Be our patron/partner/supporter today. We have the manpower, only need your support. Let us hear from you. Nothing is considered, to small, even a reply shall be appreciated. Help save lives! Yours sincerely, Dr Pat Ebili, National coordinator.
